Questions about FireCraft® Pellet-Q450™ Pellet Grill

the cooking grid material is listed as "plated steel". Is this different than stainless steel and, if so, how is it different? Thanks. jjb
Hi John, These grates are standard steel with a nickel-plating (or coating) where stainless grates are stainless steel all the way through and don't have this plating. Plating on steel grates protects the steel from rusting too quickly. They'll need to be cleaned often to prevent this from happening. It's usually best to clean any grate while the grate is hot. Since stainless steel grates do not need any type of coating, naturally they are more rust-resistant and ultimately more durable. Unfortunately this also means that stainless is usually more expensive.
Does the 450 have auto-shut off? Also, how long does it take the 450 to preheat to 500 degrees?
The Q450 will need to be powered off by pushing the power button on the control board. The grill must remain plugged in after powering off until the fan has completed the cooling sequence. Once the fan stops running, the cooling sequence has completed and the grill can be unplugged. Preheat times may vary depending on the temperature outside. If the outdoor temperature were 70 degrees, a fair estimate on preheat time would be approximately 15 minutes.
I just got a Q450, question: do you recommend lining the drip shield with aluminum foil for easier clean up?
Yes, many pellet grill owners often cover their drip trays with aluminum foil for this exact reason. In some cases it will even help the drip tray last longer.
How is the grill shipped? What is assembled and what has to be assembled?
The grill is shipped ground. Truck freight is not required. The cart will be assembled first, the grill chamber attached on top of the cart, and then the pellet hopper attached to the grilling chamber. ***PLEASE NOTE*** This is not the full set of assembly instructions for the Pellet-Q450. Please refer to the instruction manual located in the "Downloads" section of the Q450 product page for complete assembly instructions and operation procedures.
Is searing station included with q450 at 999? Also meat probes ?
No. The Sear Station is not included with the Q-450. However the grill does come with an included food probe.
How assembled is the pellet grill when you ship it?
In order to ship the grill safely and prevent damage, it does not come fully assembled.
Does humidity affect wood pellets? Can you leave the grill with cover on outside on a deck?
While direct water contact is never good for pellets you will have no issues leaving the pellets in the hopper for the next use. We have designed out grill to protect the pellets for water so the grill is ready to cook whenever you are!
In the previous questions I see that the grates are nickel plated steel, are there any other parts of the grill that is not stainless? Also, is the second level grilling rack available yet?
The body and interior cooking chamber components of the Q450 are all stainless steel. The only parts that are not stainless include the lid handle, casters, and electronic components. We are trying to have the secondary cooking rack available for purchase as soon as possible.
Is there an insulation blanket and cover available?
Yes, we do have a custom-fit cover for the Q450 - part no. 34903.0001.Currently we do not offer an insulation blanket becuase the Q450's PID controller will allow the grill to maintain optimum temperatures in hot or cold weather.
it seems most pellet smokers have a smokestack. why doesn't the firecraft?
Great question! The reason we do not use a stack and have our vents evenly spaced on the backside of the unit is so that our grill can have even heat/smoke distribution throughout the entire grilling area.
