Grill Temperatures

Over the years we have found that using your hand is the simplest yet most effective method to determine your grill's temperature and if it's ready for direct grilling. Place your hand over the fire just an inch or two above the cooking grate. How long you can hold you hand over the heat before you need to pull it away tells you what temperature it is:

2-4 Seconds – High heat: Great for searing meats.
4-6 Seconds – Medium heat: Great for normal direct grilling (chicken, vegetables, etc.).
6+ Seconds – Low heat: Works for some direct grilling like fish but this fire is almost out!
